Simple patterns for a brief, deliberate pause.

Breathing practices give you a small routine to follow when you want to slow down and pay attention to your breath. People use them during an ordinary break, before a transition, or when they want a quiet moment without an app or equipment.

Box breathing, step by step

  1. Breathe in gently for a count of four.
  2. Hold for a count of four.
  3. Breathe out gently for a count of four.
  4. Hold for a count of four.

That is one round. Complete four rounds, then return to your usual breathing. Stop sooner if you want to. For a longer sequence built around the same idea, see a ten-minute reset.

If it feels uncomfortable

Do not force the count. Return to ordinary, unforced breathing or stop the practice.

If you have persistent breathing difficulty, chest pain, or panic symptoms, contact a clinician.

An ordinary practice, not symptom treatment

Breathing practice is an ordinary self-guided routine. It does not diagnose symptoms or health conditions. If you are looking for help with ongoing symptoms, seek care from an appropriate clinician.
